Teaching: English version
I teach clinical psychology from the first year of the undergraduate degree through to the master’s level, and in continuing education programmes for health and sport professionals. I do not post my course materials online: write to me to discuss a course or a project for a talk or workshop.
Thinking institutions and organisations
Caring for institutions in order to care for patients: what institutional psychotherapy (Tosquelles, Oury…) teaches those who work in teams.
- Groups, Cultures and Institutions (Master 2): a reading seminar on texts from the Anglophone currents of organisation studies, notably systems psychodynamics.
- Psychopathology, Anthropology and Institution (Master 1): a reading seminar on texts about institutional psychotherapy.
Beyond the classroom. Since 2022, I have organised, with Baptiste Lignier and Daniel Derivois, the « evening seminars » of the Master’s in Clinical Psychology, Medical Psychology and Psychotherapies (PCPMP): researchers, psychiatric practitioners, care teams and film-makers come to talk with Master 1 and Master 2 students. In May 2022, we also organised, with the Eldorado cinema in Dijon, a screening and discussion of Nicolas Philibert’s On the Adamant.
Working as a team
Why do competent teams so often struggle to work as a team? The unconscious determinants of groups, from group psychoanalysis to systems psychodynamics.
- Institutional and team interactions (Master 2 for nurse managers): an introduction to the concepts of clinical psychology, group psychoanalysis, institutional analysis and systems psychodynamics.
- Emotional blockages in teams (university diploma in collective high-performance optimisation, brochure in French): understanding the unconscious determinants of groups’ difficulties in working as a team.
- Balint groups (fourth- and fifth-year medical students): didactic supervision of medical practice, in groups.
The art and practice of the interview
The clinical interview, individual or in a group, is learned by practising it, through simulated situations, role plays and reflexive work.
- Clinical interviewing for research (Master 1): everything the literature does not say about research as it is really done, which looks very little like the textbooks’ account of it!
- Experiential workshop on the interview (Master 2): simulated psychological consultations and a reflexive analysis of W. R. Bion’s « Notes on memory and desire ».
- The individual and group psychological interview (Master 2 in Sport Psychology and Performance Optimisation): specificities of the clinical interview, of the focus group and of the psychodynamic analysis of group associativity; analysis of texts and videos, role plays.
Inquiring differently
Doing clinical research through interpretation: constructivist epistemologies, the « empirical sciences of interpretation » (J.-C. Passeron) and methodologies of proximity.
- Epistemologies and methodologies (undergraduate year 3): non-Popperian constructivist epistemologies and the range of associated methods, from fieldwork to action research. Taught in 2023-2024; its foundations now run through my master’s courses.
- Study and research project (undergraduate year 3): learning qualitative research and inductive and abductive logics, around a theme that changes from year to year: the experience of psychology interns during the COVID-19 crisis, clinical logic through literary and cinematic works, and now institutional therapeutics, between history and current developments.
- Graduate Program « Vulnerabilities and Humanity in Care »: a lecture on the clinical approach and methodologies of proximity, and a seminar on writing in qualitative research.
- Master’s dissertation supervision: usually six to twelve master’s dissertations a year, all qualitative (fieldwork, case studies, thematic analysis of interviews).
The fundamentals
Thinking “clinically” is something you learn.
- Clinical psychology (undergraduate year 1): ethics and professional conduct, clinical methodology, main activities (psychotherapy, assessment, research), first concepts of the psychoanalytic corpus (Freud, Klein, Winnicott), and three psychotherapeutic models: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural and systemic. I have been in charge of the course since 2021 and coordinate a team of about ten lecturers.
- Semiology and psychopathology (undergraduate year 2): French and German semiology of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the clinical pictures of the major neuroses and the major categories of psychoses, applied through case studies analysed with the whole class, along with awareness-raising about the stigmatisation of mental disorders. I am in charge of the course (a team of about eight lecturers).
